Marriage Monday: Reading God’s Redemption Story between the lines of our Marriage

God, be gracious to Bruce and I and bless us, look on us with kindness. We don’t ask this for selfish reasons, but so that our marriage could be a guide to Your way, so that all who know us would read Your redemption story between the lines of our marriage.

It’s NOT all about me?

Last week I wrote about having a Copernican Revolution in our souls, where I realize “it’s not all about me!” That may feel like I’m giving up everything. Believe me, I’ve wrestled with the devil on this point during many a sleepless night.

But “it’s all about me” has such a hollow ring to it come morning in the Light of His Glory!

God is actually giving me so much more when I sacrifice self for the greater purpose of having a missional marriage. I gain clarity, focus, and direction when I let go of my puny needs and grab ahold of His powerful purpose for our marriage. My vision is lifted up to see so much more than my short life, as expressed in Psalm 67.

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us— so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.‭‭

God’s Redemption Story between the lines of our Marriage

When we invite God into the sacred space between us, He goes to work between the lines of our marriage. These thoughts were illustrated beautifully in this week’s Kensington Church Online sermon called Rebuild   The sermon notes included these three questions, which I have altered a bit to help you discover God’s dreams for your marriage:

  • What work has God given you in your marriage that you will not be distracted by?
  • What opposition or distraction do you need to surrender to God so you can focus solely on this work?
  • How can you leverage your marriage to bring greater unity and community?

This prayer is based on Psalm 67:1-2, a great place to start your journey toward clarity, focus, & direction.

God, be gracious to us and bless us, look on us with kindness. We don’t ask this for selfish reasons, but so that our marriage could be a guide to Your way, so that all who know us would read Your redemption story between the lines of our marriage.
