Marriage Monday: Be a Tree of Life

Be a Tree of Life in your marriage. Nourish your spouse with life, hope, and wisdom.

Special Fruit from a Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is first mentioned in the book of Genesis, in Garden of Eden; eating its fruit would impart eternal life.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God they were removed from the Garden and the Tree of Life.

At the end of time, when Jesus returns, we will have access to this wonderful tree again. It produces a different fruit each month, and it’s leaves will be used for healing of the nations.

Images of this incredible Tree of Life have inspired many artists to imagine it. Won’t it be awesome to finally see it?

Until that day, we can actually be a “Tree of Life” to others, especially our spouses.

We can be a Tree of Life

The Bible has some beautiful images of what it means to “be a Tree of Life.” Here are a few.

Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 15:4 NLT

Words and tone of voice are so important to the hearer. They can build up or tear down others. Being married to a person who has a crushed spirit is not a good place to be. Ask yourself: “Are my words to my husband gentle and life-giving?”

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Proverbs 13:12 NIV

Have you ever given up on your dreams? How does it feel? Being married to someone who is heart sick means the marriage is heart sick too. Do you know your husband’s dreams and secret longings? What are yours? Where do they intersect? Could you dream together about the legacy of your marriage?

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Proverbs 3:13-14 NIV

When wisdom and understanding are evident in a marriage, you will find a thriving life. Seek God’s wisdom and understanding above all! God knows your husband far better than you do. Could you seek the Creator’s wisdom on how to be the best wife to him? When your spiritual growth plays out in the role you fulfill in your marriage, you will bring blessing and abundance to your spouse.

Be Blessed as a Giving Tree of Life

Being a Tree of Life is all about giving. Imagine you are walking in the Garden of Eden, and you come across this tree. What would you imagine it looks like? Do you picture it dried up and barren? Or instead does it appear lush, green, and overflowing with ripe fruit?

When fruit stays on a tree without being picked, more fruit cannot grow. It becomes stagnant. Fruit is meant to be given away. And the more fruit is given away, the more the tree produces.

Be a willing Tree of Life in your marriage. You will never become depleted but will blossom with Life yourself.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

Acts 20:35 NIV

It is more blessed to give than receive!

…because U count, deb
