Marriage Monday: Laughter is Like Finding Buried Treasure

Finding the comical in your marriage is like hunting for buried treasure. Laughter is as valuable as that treasure, it’s good medicine!

This is us, after about 20 takes, trying to get a good shot with the cups Macy Houghtlin made for us.

This one was blurry, that one was off-center, my wrinkly neck showed in that one, and in one picture Bruce’s hand holding the selfie stick looked a lot like a little butt!

After a while we started to get silly and having straws so near our noses was irresistible, bringing back memories of our second date.

It was early in 1973. We were sitting side by side in a restaurant and Bruce had a glass of coke in front of him. He turned his head to take a sip from the straw, but the straw accidentally went up his nose. He was embarrassed but thought if he just lifted his head and turned back to me the straw would fall out and I wouldn’t notice.

Instead, the straw stuck.

I was rewarded with a life-long comical memory of Bruce with a straw dangling from his nose.

That’s when I knew this was the guy I would marry.

We don’t have a perfect marriage (no one does). But we laugh a lot, and finding reasons to laugh is like hunting for buried treasure. Laughter is healing, and best of all it’s free and lacks the nasty side effects of some medicine.

Laughter is good medicine!

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
