Do you have a plan for your marriage? When we married we had all sorts of plans. Little did we know, God had plans too. We had no idea how significant God’s plans were.
Our Marriage Plans
We love to plan. Bruce creates wonderful spreadsheets for every major event of our life. So, when we married we had all kinds of plans. We planned where to live, what kind of dishes we would have, what color our sheets and towels would be, where we would work, and how we would organize our finances.
We should have discussed other larger issues, but we left them to just sort of happen. Such as whether and when to have children, how we would celebrate holidays, and whether or where to go to church. We didn’t plan any further than that, honestly.
God’s Marriage Plans
We didn’t know it at the time but God had plans for our marriage.
His plans are much more lofty than ours were. He heals our wounds from the past. Increases our marital oneness even through the darkest nights. Provides a purpose that lives beyond life as we know it. And He will never leave us, even when we are widowed.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Have a Plan for your Marriage
We decided to receive His promises after wandering on our own for 18 years of our marriage.
That decision turned the entire trajectory of our marriage around. We’ve never regretted it. The wonderful news about God is – it’s never too late. No matter how long you’ve been married, you can have a plan and start over.
We would recommend the following books to help you discover what God’s plans are for your marriage.
