Many couples ache for the support and encouragement of community. But fear of being vulnerable holds them back. Let go of fear and be real because real people have real friends.
We Lack Real Friends
Almost all the couples who come to us for help in their marriages agree they wish they had more couple friends. Facebook and Twitter aside, most Americans have only two real friends.
Having a circle of married couples who share your commitment to marriage and have your back when the going gets rough can make all the difference in the world.
This type of community can be a source of truth, encouragement, connection, and grace. They can stand in the gap and pray for you at those times when you can’t even pray for yourself. In community you realize that you’re not the only ones and you don’t have to go it alone.
Real People have Real Friends
Despite the benefits of community most of us are afraid to reach out and be vulnerable. We get so used to the masks of perfection we wear. We stay hidden behind them even when we’re dying inside. But if we take the mask off and ask for help that encourages others to do the same.
Be real. Be open. Be comforted. Real people have real friends.
